How to get rid of squirrels using homemade squirrel repellent

Squirrel repellents will always be needed as squirrels are extremely destructive animals despite their cuddly looks. These animals are capable of destroying your bird feeder, eat all the food you have left open and accessible, and cause havoc in your garden. In winter, you may even catch these squirrels trying to enter your attic without paying any rent to you. There are two obvious options to get rid of them permanently: one is to get an exterminator, which is a costly option, and might not work: or, use one of the many available home remedies as squirrel repellents against the unpleasant and destructive infestation of squirrels.
Some of the popular homemade squirrel repellents
One of the most popular remedies is the use of hot peppers. Hot peppers like Serrano and Cayenne are excellent squirrel repellents. There are several methods to use them. You can buy whole peppers at your grocery store, bring them home and place them in your blender. Once these whole peppers are mashed up, take the mixture to the squirrel infested area and place it there. You may also consider buying cayenne pepper available in jars in the spices section of your local grocery store. This cayenne pepper is sprinkled in the birdseed around the garden and in the attic. This drives away these cute, but extremely annoying mammals away.
Most people have WD-40 around the house. This can be sprayed around the edges of your backyard or close to the holes and vents in the attic used by squirrels to get inside the house. This spray can also be used on the containers of your plants and flowers in your garden. It is very effective for getting rid of intruding squirrels. They are incapable of withstanding the smell and so are repelled by this spray.
Another good home remedy to repel squirrels is hair. Human hair retains the natural oils of your body and keeps its scent. This scent repels the squirrels. When you visit the hair salon or barber shop the next time for your hair cut, ask the barber for the clippings of your hair. He / She might also have some clippings from other customers, which can also be used for the cause. Collect the hair clumps, take them home and place them around the area infested with these villainous squirrels. The same problem can also be dealt with by using pet hairs.
Apart from the three products described above to repel squirrels, you can also use the following items: nutmeg, cinnamon, Capacin, Jalapeno and Serrano peppers mashed in blenders, Chili powder, Tabasco sauce, Peppermint Oil, a mixture of 100 aspirins and peanut butter and cat litter etc. Most of these items can be just placed around the plants. Some other things such as chili pepper need to be blended with birdseed. These spices do not affect birds but the troublesome squirrels can definitely be driven away. The best way is to use one remedy and if it does not work, go for another. You can also go for commercial squirrel repellents as a last resort.
